This is the Muir Glacier in Alaska, shot in August, 1941 and August, 2004. It’s only one example in NASA’s new Images of Change app. Seeing the unbelievable effect of just a few decades of climate change in the following before and after photos is a sad and sobering experience.
“Ever since we arrived on this planet as a species, we’ve cut down plants, dug them up, burnt them and poisoned them. Today we’re doing so on a greater scale than ever. We destroy plants at our peril. Neither we nor any other animal can survive without them. The time has now come for us to cherish our green inheritance, not to pillage it – for without it, we will surely perish.” – David Attenborough
